Detection and characterization of new papilloma virus

The host range of papillomaviruses is normally restricted to one species and includes both mammals and non-mammals. More than a hundred different human and more than fifty non-human Papillomaviruses have been described. In the course of routine papillomavirus diagnostics, we frequently discover new papillomaviruses. Further characterization by means of cloning and sequencing the entire viral genome and applying bioinformatic tools is done to explore the evolutionary context of these viruses.
